Derek attended Central Methodist College in Fayette, Missouri on a football scholarship. Derek also did a hitch in the United States Marine Corps where he was an honor graduate out of boot camp. He became a Scout Sniper and his tour of duty took him to Cuba, Japan, Korea and all over the western United States, He was based at Camp Lejeune in NC.

Derek has deep family roots to Monroe County. His ancestors date back to the early 1700's when they settled in the Greenville area of Monroe County. Derek moved to Monroe County in 2003 from Orlando, Florida to become involved in the family business with his dad and step mom, Jerry and Susan Houchins.

Since moving to West Virginia in 2003 Derek has had a lot of great things happen in his life over the last few years, #1 on that list is getting Saved and Baptized this has really helped him prioritize his life and things have started to fall in place!! Also on that list is having his 1st son Elijah Wyatt Houchins on December 6th 2007 whom is the Joy of his life, Derek has since been elected to the Greenbrier board of Directors, and he will be president of the board in 2011, and he really enjoys working with the Board and being involved. Also Derek has earned his GRI and ABR along with recently Passing his Brokers exam in the state of West Virginia. Tom Marcinkowski and his family have recently relocated to the Peterstown area. Before moving, Tom had visited West Virginia for many years to hunt. Feeling that it was the perfect place for his family to settle down. Tom joined the team at Great Mountain Properties, a local real estate company owned by Jerry and Susan Houchins. Tom has been a long-time friend of the family, a friendship with Derek Houchins beginning in elementary school in Orlando, FL.

Tom has a background in heavy equipment sales, where he worked many years for his family business in Florida. His interests include hunting; fly fishing, golf and a love of horses. He also enjoys working on his property in Peterstown and enjoys the view of Peters Mountain from his home.

Most recently, Tom lived in New England, and was a licensed REALTOR® in both Vermont and New Hampshire. Tom is currently licensed in both Virginia and West Virginia. In June of 2007, after 30 years of teaching math at Narrows High School, Michael retired from teaching and began to work full time with Great Mountain Properties. He has worked part time since earning his real estate sales license in July of 2004, and has also maintained the web page for GREAT MOUNTAIN PROPERTIES since the opening of this family business.

Michael and his wife Cathi reside in Lindside, West Virginia. They built on the family farm and have resided there since 1985. He is a native of Giles County growing up in Rich Creek, Virginia.

Along with teaching school and working in the real estate business, he also pastors the Appalachian Christian Center in Peterstown, West Virginia. Michael and Cathi have served as the pastor since December of 1993. The church is a nondenominational church welcoming all who have a desire to serve and worship the LORD JESUS CHRIST.
